mataglap — an Indonesian word meaning “dark eye” or, probably, “dilated eye.” It is an indication that someone is about to go berserk and start killing people at random. Used in Walter Jon Williams’ novel Aristoi as the name of a berserk form of nanotechnology that devoured the planet.

This site aims to provide guidance and commentary on current and past science fiction stories and novels, with an emphasis on  both award nominees and on fiction that contains science of some kind, over all the various other kinds of speculative literature.   The other kinds are ok too, and have good stuff, and deserve to exist, and are often more popular, but other people can cover that.
